The Cannabis Graveyard: What We Let Go—and Why

WELCOME TO HERMIT'S DELIGHT

87 cultivars down. Only the cultivars that align with our vision remain.

At Hermit’s Delight, cultivation is a form of curation.
And in our pursuit of the perfect plant, we’ve grown over 100 unique cultivars. Some were from seed, some from trusted clones. Many had promise. But only a few earned a permanent place in our jars.

The rest? Retired. Culled. Buried in the Cannabis Graveyard.

Not out of failure, but out of refinement.

The Role of the Graveyard in Our Process

We don’t grow to fill shelves. We grow to discover.

Sometimes that means hunting phenotypes from seed to expression. Other times, we bring in clone-only classics to see if they truly fit our brand. But no matter how a cultivar arrives, it’s held to the same Hermit’s Delight standard:

Does this elevate the everyday? Does it transform the mundane into something memorable?

If not, it joins the Graveyard.

Why We Let Them Go

Every cultivar gets a real shot. We dial them in. Observe them. Evaluate the aroma, flavor, and effect firsthand. But many just don’t meet the mark.

Reasons we’ve retired cultivars include:

  • One-dimensional terpene profiles
  • Effects that didn’t align with our ritual-forward ethos
  • Inconsistent performance in the flower rooms
  • Cultivars that were trendy but didn’t hold up over time
  • Good—but not aligned with our deeper vision.

If a cultivar didn’t resonate with our ritual-forward approach—morning routines, winding down, creative flow—it didn’t stay.

What Makes a Hermit’s Delight Cultivar?

It’s more than THC. More than frost.
A true Hermit’s Delight cultivar is one you feel before you even smoke it. It enhances simple things. It lingers in memory. It earns a place in your ritual.

We look for:

  • Balanced, nuanced flavor that lasts from dry pull to exhale
  • Effects that center, uplift, or inspire
  • Plants that grow clean, clone strong, and cure beautifully
  • Cultivars with soul—not just hype

The Graveyard Isn’t the End—It’s How We Get Better

Letting go of 88 cultivars means we’ve honored the process.
We’ve taken the long way. The slow way. The craft-first way.Every flower you see from Hermit’s Delight today has survived real scrutiny.
So when you spark it, you’re not just getting cannabis.
You’re getting confidence. Curation. And a piece of everything we’ve learned by letting go.

Here’s to the fallen cultivars. And to the next one waiting to rise.
